PEP seminarium om praktikteori

Konferens

Hela seminariet ges på engelska.

The research that will be presented in the seminars, have strong relevance for development of Swedish Educational Sciences. At this moment in educational history, it is crucially important to reach better understandings of educational practice and development. Regimes of testing of school students put substantial pressure on teachers, schools and school systems to improve students¿ test outcomes. Current educational policies and public attention focus on narrow learning outcomes for students. National frameworks tend to cherish data-driven or evidence-based teaching at the expense of substantial research on educational practices and the development of these practice, for example, research focussing on (a) the lived, unfolding learning and social practices of students which affect their learning outcomes, (b) the substantive teaching practices that shape these learning practices, (c) the professional development practices of teachers and educational staff and (d) leadership practices that shape teachers¿ practices.
The ways these different practices are interconnected have been central to the studies of the international network Pedagogy, Education & Praxis (PEP) which was established in 2005 (supported by UVK in 2011-2014). Researchers in the network conduct site-based educational research in the Nordic countries and in Australia (and also in the UK, the Netherlands, Colombia, and the Carribean), crossing national boundaries and intellectual traditions.
The theory of practice architectures offers new ways to think about interventions to enable the development of practices at particular sites ¿ for example, in the arrangements being created in action research. Action research, lesson study, learning study, and dialogue circles (among other site-based approaches) deal with changes in practice and are highly recognised and used in the development of schools in Sweden. Analysis of enabling and constraining conditions in such initiatives is important for leaders, teachers, and researchers wishing to create sustainable and student-learning oriented conditions and practices in schools and other educational settings.
