About Ann-Charlotte Bivall

Currently, I am in the process of finalizing my thesis about learning and knowing in helpdesk practices. My thesis work is grounded in a sociocultural approach on learning and development. The interests revolve around questions of how helpdesking activities are achieved and re-constituted over time in contemporary society. The overarching aim of the study is to scrutinize how knowing and competencies are maintained and shared as an intrinsic aspect of professional work. By gaining insight in professional work at a help desk service provision, this thesis aims to provide details about what particular forms of knowing and communication that is emerging and how work is organized to sustain professional activities. In other words, this thesis directs attention to general topics in educational science such as lifelong learning and collective knowing. A particular interest in the empirical investigation lies in the characteristics of learning and knowing as they unfold when participants engage in everyday activities and for learning arranged activities. More specifically, I have studied how such communicative activities are used as resources in organizing for continuous learning and sharing of knowing within a team of help desk engineers.

Academically, my background is in Human Resources, with pedagogy/education as main subject. Prior I have also studied music at the Faculty of Arts and Education at Karlstad University and at the Academy of Music and Drama, University of Gothenburg, which also remain as interest
