Global Childhoods seminar

Global childhoods will enable participants to develop understandings of how changing perspective of children, childhood and identity over time and through globalization pertinent among children, their families and educators in and outside formal educational settings. We also aim to develop understandings of contemporary ideals around "glocal" and the different perspectives of childhood. Childhood is described from birth to 18 years.

Specific objectives of Global childhoods seminar are to:

  • bring together active researchers in the field of global childhoods to sustain and develop our community of research and scholarship;
  •  build on and extend our reputation of excellence in global childhood research within the University, nationally and internationally;
  • develop and support research skills of staff and students in global childhood in order to increase research in global childhood studies;
  • build on collaborative research opportunities within communities and key stakeholders;
  • increase internal and external research income and to promote research outcomes in global childhoods, and
  • promote internationalization through global childhoods as a way of cultural diversity and acceptance.


The seminar of global childhoods will consist of members from IPKL and international academics (participating on line). Members have a variety of perspectives, methods and methodologies.

Publishing outcomes and seminars

The first outcome from the group will be an edited book by Professor Susanne Garvis and Associate Anette Hellman with an international publisher. The book will be peer-reviewed and include local as well as international authors. Early career researchers will be encouraged to be involved to enhance publishing skills.

The research group of Global childhoods will work on applications.

7th of April 2020, 12-15

12-13: Discussion of future writing projects. (bring your own lunch).
