About Björn Haglund

Research interests
I am interested in how people, through their actions, create and reproduce the structures they work within and through in various contexts. Primarily this research interest has been applied to leisure time pedagogues and their work in schools, which is showed in my dissertation. I am also interested in studying other occupations and how interaction in other contexts is created. I also see people’s recreation time as an important opportunity for learning and development. For that reason I find arenas where more informal types of learning are emphasized as important. I consider leisure, in form of leisure at leisure-time centers, as an interesting research area and I have been concentrating on trying to describe how the various discourses concerning leisure could be said to guide how the content of the activities in the leisure-time center is created. I am convenor of the Nordic Educational Research Association’s (NERA) Leisure-time Pedagogy Network.

Teaching interests
I have taught both single-subject courses in education and courses in the general offerings in the teacher education program, courses directed to preschool teachers and leisure-time pedagogues and in special courses directed to leisure-time education. Presently I primarily teach courses in the teacher education program directed for leisure-time centers where I also act as course leader and director of studies. I also teach and supervise in matters of education, school and leisure-time centers’ on both ground and master levels.

Keywords
